Description

Smooth and creamy Nutella frosting made with butter, powdered sugar, and Nutella. Perfect to frost 12 cupcakes or fill and cover a 6-inch (15 cm) layer cake (2 layers).

Ingredients

  • 250 g (1 cup + 2 tbsp) butter - softened
  • 275 g (2 ¼ cups) powdered sugar - sifted
  • 180 g (¾ cup) Nutella
  • 45 ml (3 tbsp) heavy cream
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt - optional

Instructions

  1. Place the softened butter in a large bowl and beat for 2–3 minutes until smooth, pale, and creamy.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar in 2–3 additions, mixing well after each addition until fully incorporated and fluffy.
  3. Add the heavy cream and vanilla extract, then mix until smooth and creamy, scraping the sides of the bowl if needed.
  4. Add the Nutella and mix just until fully combined and the frosting is smooth and silky.
  5. If the frosting is too thick, add a little more cream. If too soft, add a bit more powdered sugar or chill briefly.
  6. Use immediately to frost cupcakes or cakes, or store in the fridge and bring back to room temperature before using.

Notes

Storage: Store in the fridge for up to 4 days and bring back to room temperature before using.

Tips:

  • Use very soft butter for a smooth texture
  • Sift the powdered sugar to avoid lumps
  • Add cream slowly to control consistency
  • Don’t overmix once smooth
  • Chill slightly if too soft
