Description

Easy recipe for baked maple glazed donuts with almond flavor, soft and fluffy with a sweet maple syrup glaze. Makes about 12 donuts.

Ingredients

Donuts

  • 80 g (⅓ cup) sugar - granulated sugar
  • 180 g (¾ cup) buttermilk
  • 75 g (⅓ cup) vegetable oil - grapeseed oil
  • 1 egg - room temperature
  • 190 g (1 ½ cups) flour - all-purpose flour
  • 50 g (½ cup) almond meal
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 pinch salt

Maple Glaze

  • 120 g (1 cup) powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 12 tbsp milk or water (adjust for consistency)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Donuts:

  1. Preheat your oven to 356°F (180°C) and grease a donut pan with butter or nonstick spray.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the sugar, oil, buttermilk, egg, vanilla extract, and maple syrup until smooth.
  3. Add the flour, almond meal, baking powder, and salt, then mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Pour the batter evenly into the donut pan cavities, filling about ¾ full.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool on a wire rack.

Maple Glaze:

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, maple syrup, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. The glaze should be slightly thick but still pourable.
  2. Dip each cooled donut into the glaze, then place on a wire rack to allow the excess to drip off.
  3. Sprinkle with crushed nuts or extra toppings, if desired. Let the glaze set before serving.

Notes

Storage:

  • Room Temperature: Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • Refrigerator: Keep in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Let sit at room temperature before serving.
  • Freezer: Freeze unglazed donuts for up to 2 months. Thaw at room temperature and glaze before serving.

Tips:

  • Use a digital scale for accurate measurements and the best texture.
  • Don’t overmix the batter to keep the donuts light and fluffy.
  • Substituting buttermilk: Mix ¾ cup milk + 1 tbsp vinegar or lemon juice, let sit for 5 minutes.
  • For a thicker glaze, add more powdered sugar until you reach the right consistency.
  • Grease the donut pan well to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal.
