    • Almond Meal – Adds a subtle nutty flavor and extra moisture to the donuts.
    • Sugar – Regular granulated sugar sweetens the batter perfectly.
    • Maple Syrup – Gives a natural maple flavor and keeps the donuts moist.
    • Egg – Helps bind the ingredients and adds structure for a fluffy texture.
    • Baking Powder – Essential for a light, airy rise.

    • Vanilla & Salt – Enhances the flavor and balances the sweetness.
    • Icing Sugar – Used for the smooth maple glaze that coats the donuts beautifully.

How to Make Baked Maple Donuts

Here’s a quick visual guide! Don’t forget, the full instructions with exact ingredient measurements are in the main recipe card below.

    1. Preheat oven to 356°F / 180°C and grease a special oven donut pan with butter or grease spray.
    2. Whisk together powdered sugar and the wet ingredients, vegetable oil, maple syrup, fermented milk, egg and vanilla extracts.
    3. Add dry ingredients, flour, almond powder, baking powder and salt and gently whisk to combine until cake batter is smooth.
    4. Pour the donuts batter into the special donut pan, making sure to fill each cavity ¾ full because the dough will puff up.
    5. Bake the donuts in the oven for the time indicated in the recipe card.
    6. Let cool for a few minutes before removing from the pan and cooling completely on a cake rack.

    Maple Syrup Glaze

    • In a bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
    • The glaze should be thick but pourable.Dip each cooled donut into the glaze, then place on a wire rack to allow excess glaze to drip off. Let set before serving.

      Tips for this recipe

      • Use room temperature ingredients – This helps create a smooth batter and even baking.
      • Don’t overmix the batter – Mix just until combined to keep the donuts soft and fluffy.
      • Grease the donut pan well – This prevents sticking and makes it easier to remove the donuts.
      • Fill the molds evenly – Use a spoon or piping bag to distribute the batter for uniform donuts.
      • Let donuts cool completely before glazing – The glaze will set better on fully cooled donuts.
      • For a thicker glaze – Add more icing sugar for a richer and creamier coating.
      • Double dip for extra flavor – Let the first glaze set, then dip again for a sweeter finish.

      Storage instructions

      • Room Temperature – Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
      • Refrigerator – Keep in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Let them come to room temperature before serving.
      • Freezer – Freeze without glaze for up to 2 months. Thaw at room temperature and glaze before serving.

      Variations & Substitutions

      • Maple Pecan Donuts – Add chopped pecans to the batter or sprinkle them on top of the glaze.
      • Chocolate Maple Donuts – Mix cocoa powder into the batter for a rich chocolate flavor with the maple glaze.
      • Cinnamon Maple Donuts – Add a teaspoon of cinnamon to the batter for a warm, spiced flavor.
      • Maple Vanilla Donuts – Add extra vanilla seed or a vanilla bean paste to enhance the flavor.
      • Extra Sweet Maple Glaze – Mix in more powdered sugar for a thicker, creamier glaze.
