Chocolate granola is a delicious and crunchy snack that combines oats with rich chocolate flavors. It’s very similar to my basic granola recipe, but with a tasty chocolate twist, making it the perfect balance of sweet and savory for any time of the day.

This homemade granola includes wholesome rolled oats, chocolate chips, and a mix of nuts and seeds for added texture. It’s sweetened with natural maple syrup and enriched with a hint of cocoa powder to give it that irresistible chocolatey taste.

Enjoy your chocolate granola as a topping for yogurt, smoothies, or simply as a snack. It’s also perfect for adding to your breakfast routine or packing as a healthy snack for on-the-go.

    Ingredients You Need

You will need these ingredients to make this chocolate granola recipe:

    • Oats: The main source of fiber, perfect for curbing morning cravings. Use old-fashioned rolled oats, or substitute with wheat, barley, or buckwheat flakes. Choose organic and gluten-free if needed.
    • Chocolate: Use dark baking chocolate chunks or melted chocolate for a rich chocolate flavor.
    • Cocoa Powder: Use unsweetened cocoa powder, not sweetened cocoa.
    • Sugar: Opt for natural liquid sweeteners like maple syrup, honey, or fruit puree. You can also use brown sugar, diluted in water.
    • Oil: Choose a neutral oil like coconut oil, grape seed oil, or avocado oil.
    • Nuts and Seeds: Add chopped nuts and seeds (almonds, hazelnuts, sunflower, flax, etc.) for texture and flavor.
    • Chocolate Chips: Add after the granola has completely cooled.
    • Vanilla and Salt: Add a pinch of sea salt and pure vanilla extract to enhance the flavor.

Here’s a quick visual guide. Don’t forget, the full instructions with the exact ingredients are in the main recipe card below!

In a large bowl, combine oats, unsweetened cocoa powder, chopped or melted chocolate, nuts, and seeds. Add coconut oil, maple syrup, sea salt, and vanilla extract, then mix until everything is coated.

Spread the mixture on the baking sheet, pressing it down to form a compact layer. Bake for 20-25 minutes, stirring halfway through. Let it cool completely, then add dark chocolate chips and mix. Store in an airtight jar.

      • Eat it as a snack: Enjoy it on its own for a quick, healthy snack anytime.
      • Mix with milk: Serve it like cereal with cold milk for a delicious twist on a classic breakfast.

      Tips for this recipe

      • Use high-quality chocolate: For the best flavor, choose a good-quality chocolate, either chopped or melted, that you enjoy.
      • Let it cool completely: Allow the granola to cool fully before mixing in the chocolate chips to avoid melting them.
      • Customize your mix-ins: Feel free to add your favorite nuts, seeds, or dried fruit to personalize the granola.
      • Check while baking: Stir halfway through to ensure even cooking and a crunchy texture.
      • Press down for crunch: Press the granola mixture down firmly before baking to achieve a compact, crunchy texture.
