This banana date smoothie recipe is a delicious iced drink with a creamy, smooth texture just like my strawberry banana peanut butter smoothie but with the delicious date and banana flavors.

Composed of dates, bananas, vegetable milk, some nuts and seeds and ice cubes, all mixed in a blender until you have a creamy and naturally sweet smoothie with a delicious nutty flavor.

This is a very easy recipe to make at home and easy to adapt to everyone's taste, for a creamy and fresh drink to enjoy for breakfast or at any time of the day.

    Ingredient for this recipe

You need these ingredients to make this banana date shake:

    • Dates: Use Medjool dates or Deglet Noor dates, that are not too dry and have melting flesh, use more or less dates to have a more or less flavored drink.
    • Bananas: You will need ripe bananas, you can also use frozen bananas.
    • Milk: Preferably a dairy-free milk like a vegetable drink like unsweetened almond milk, oat milk, or coconut milk. You can replace it with Greek yogurt for an even thicker consistency.
    • Nuts: A few nuts provide fiber and protein, such as walnut kernels or almonds, and are perfect for having a banana date smoothie thicker.
    • Seeds: Optionally I like to also add some sunflower seeds, hemp seeds or flax seeds and chia seeds for a satiating smoothie.
    • Ice cubes: For an ice-cold drink.

    Tips for this recipe

    • Use frozen banana: cut ripe bananas into pieces and place them in a cooler bag in the freezer to use in your recipes and drinks.
    • Soak Dates: If your dates are dry, soak them in warm water for 10-15 minutes before blending to soften them and make them easier to blend.
    • Use a High-Powered Blender: Ensure a smooth and creamy texture by using a high-powered blender capable of breaking down frozen fruits and nuts effectively.
    • Balance Liquids: Adjust the amount of milk you add based on your desired consistency. Start with a smaller amount and add more as needed to reach your preferred thickness.
    • Enhance Flavor: Consider adding a pinch of cinnamon or a splash of vanilla extract to enhance the flavor profile of your smoothie.

    Recipe Variations & Substitutions

    • Chocolate Banana Date Smoothie: Add a tablespoon of cocoa powder , mini chocolate chips or chocolate protein powder to the smoothie for a chocolatey twist.
    • Berry Banana Date Smoothie: Incorporate a handful of mixed berries such as strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries for added antioxidants and a burst of fruity flavor.
    • Green Banana Date Smoothie: Boost the nutrition by adding a handful of spinach or kale to the smoothie like this green smoothie.
    • Spiced Banana Date Smoothie: Add a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cardamom or ginger to the smoothie for a warm and comforting flavor.
    • Date Banana Peanut Butter Smoothie: Include a tablespoon of almond butter, peanut butter, cashew butter or any nut butter of your choice for a creamy texture and extra nutty flavor.
    • Vanilla Banana Date Smoothie: Add a splash of vanilla extract or a scoop of vanilla-flavored protein powder for a classic and comforting taste.
    • Creamy Banana Date Smoothie: Swap the milk for coconut milk or almond milk for a creamier texture and a dairy-free option.
    • Protein powder: You can easily incorporate vanilla protein powder or chocolate protein powder into your drink.

    Recipe Questions

Can I use fresh bananas instead of frozen ones?

Yes, you can use fresh bananas, but using frozen bananas helps to create a thicker and creamier texture in the smoothie.

    When to drink it?

The banana date smoothie is perfect to drink at breakfast before or after a sports session or to break the fast during the month of Ramadan.

Are dates necessary for the smoothie?

Dates add natural sweetness and a caramel-like flavor to the smoothie, but you can omit them if you prefer or substitute with another sweetener like honey or maple syrup.

How to do without a blender?

You can always use the thermomix to blend your ingredients or a hand blender.

Can I adjust the thickness of the smoothie?

Yes, you can adjust the thickness of the smoothie by adding more almond milk or less liquid. If you prefer a thicker consistency, use less liquid, and if you prefer a thinner consistency, add more liquid.
