What is iced coffee?
Well I think the name of this drink is enough to know what it is about! So yes, the iced coffee is simply a black coffee cold served in a glass with lots of ice cubes.
And if you're the kind of person who likes to start every day with a good cup of coffee in the morning, then this vanilla iced coffee recipe is perfect for you! It's the perfect drink to get your caffeine fix and still be refreshed this summer.
Although I am not very addicted to black coffee, I admit that I really like this flavor in desserts or even just to smell the coffee.
And even though I was a little worried about the taste of cold coffee, this vanilla iced coffee recipe is just delicious. All the aroma and taste of black coffee in an iced drink, it's amazing I'm totally a fan of this drink.

Vanilla iced coffee recipe
The vanilla flavor is amazing in recipes, it works wonders with chocolate but also with the coffee flavor.
To make a Starbucks copycat iced vanilla coffee recipe you can simply add pure vanilla extract which will already flavor your drink wonderfully and even more if you add milk to your iced coffee.
Or add an infused vanilla syrup which is a mixture of vanilla (or the seeds of a vanilla bean) with sugar and a bit of water.
The whole is heated in a saucepan, then removed from the heat and left to infuse for a few minutes so that the vanilla releases its aroma.

Ingredients to make Vanilla iced coffee
- Coffee: espresso coffee, filter coffee, etc… in short, the one you usually like to make.
- Ice cubes: Ice will inevitably dilute the taste of coffee and if you are afraid of not getting your coffee shot, then you can make an extra strong coffee by reducing the amount of liquid or just make coffee ice cubes.
- Sugar: the one you usually use in your coffee, here I use a natural sugar, maple syrup that you can replace by honey.
- Milk: as an option you can use 2% milk or a plant-based milk like my homemade almond milk recipe.
- Vanilla : Essential in this recipe, I use pure vanilla extract, you can also use the seeds of a vanilla bean and infuse them in the hot coffee to bring out the flavor even more. Or make homemade vanilla syrup by heating maple syrup, vanilla extract and 2 tablespoons of water in a saucepan and let infuse for 5 minutes.

Iced coffee vs. cold brew coffee
Well, I promise you that you don't need a degree in coffeeology to understand the difference between iced coffee and cold brew coffee.
At first glance, both are similar, iced coffee drinks, but the preparation of the coffee is totally different:
Iced coffee: This is the quick method, with the coffee that you usually prepare by mixing with a hot liquid. Once cooled the coffee is mixed with ice.
Cold brew coffee: This is the long version and it seems that cold brewed coffee has an incomparable flavor. The ground coffee is mixed with cold water and must rest for at least 12 hours at room temperature.
The longer it sits, the more full-bodied its taste will be, but it will also have a milder flavor and it is less bitter than the traditional coffee made hot.
